ALVAIÁZERE

The market town of Alvaiázere is a 2 minute drive from Casa Vales and has everything to meet your shopping needs. Amongst it's array of shops are 2 supermarkets, the aptly named "Mini Preco" and Docemel. Both offer a variety of products and are very good value for money, particularly compared to English supermarkets. It also has a numerous banks, all accepting English bank cards, a post office (with an English speaker behind the counter) and a health centre (in case of minor injuries).

Wednesday is market day. Here you can get all of your fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, cheese, nuts and clothes all at very reasonable prices.
In the clothes section you will often here the sellers shouting "Everything 5 euros", which shows the value on offer.

On a Sunday a very "olde worldy" cinema is open.
It only has one screen, has 2 showings (one at 4.30pm and one at 9pm), and has an interval to change the reel! There is also a little shop selling popcorn and drinks, including beer!
There are also numerous small bars and cafes.

At Festas (festival) time the town becomes alive with lights and music. The muncipal square, which also houses part of the market on market day, will have live music until the early hours of the morning.
Some of Portugal's top acts are often seen there.

There is also the Alvaiázere Ridge where you can view the splendour
of the local countryside in all its glory. On a clear day, and most days are, you can even see the Atlantic Ocean.
