Only a mere 10 minute drive from Casa Rosa Vales is the stunning river Zezere. Views of the river from the hills above are nothing short of stunning.
The Zezere river is a tributary to the river Tagus. It rises in the Serra da Estrela, near the Torre, the highest point of continental Portugal. The Zêzere runs through the town Manteigas, and passes south of the city Covilhã. It flows into the Tagus in Constância.
Around the river are numerous towns and villages. Foz de Alge is a perfect spot for taking in the beautiful scenary. Here there are 3 cafes where you may take in a drink, or meal for that matter, whilst admiring the views up the river. There is also a small beach where you may relax and enjoy the views whilst enjoying the sunshine.
Further down the river is another beach at Sao Simao. At this part of the river it is much smaller and offers a different kind of beauty. It is surrounded by ridges of rock and has it's own picnic area where you can enjoy its tranquility.
